I think writing and reading are the purest disciplines. Discipline in the latin means mortification by scourging. Literature is the most magical mix of rigor and inventiveness evereverever. Do not tell me that literature is woolly. It is as woolly as your feelings are. It is not about your feelings. It is about the way you unpack them and trace their potency, and the way other people have expressed them for centuries. It is, however, just as important as your feelings, i.e. extremely important.
